Add this one to the annals of ideas so good they should have been obvious-- Deadline reports that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have been asked to return as hosts of the Golden Globes ceremony next year. The funny duo, who at the time were both leading NBC sitcoms and had hosted SNL's Weekend Update together, completely killed it hosting last year's awards, with everything from cheesy Catskills jokes-- "The Hunger Games, or what I call the six weeks it took me to get into this dress!"-- to donning insane costumes and playing fake nominees. You probably don't really need a reminder of how great they were, but it's always fun to revisit:
There's no word on how likely the two are to take the job, but as Deadline points out, hosting the Globes isn't nearly as big a commitment as hosting the Oscars, which requires several months of prep (how Ellen DeGeneres plans to fit that in along with her talk show, I have no idea). And Fey and Poehler brought in some of the best ratings ever for the Globes last year, earning 19.7 million viewers, up 17% from the previous year, when mean old Ricky Gervais hosted. And while Fey and Poehler got some flak for jokes perceived to be too much-- like telling Taylor Swift to stay away from Michael J. Fox's son-- they're both so damn likable, and their jokes are so legitimately funny, that you can't hold it against them.
With 30 Rock sadly off the air, any excuse to get Tina Fey back on our televisions is a good one. Bring back Tina and Amy! Make the Golden Globes relevant and actually funny again!
