Tucker Signs TV Deal, Hilarity To Ensue?

The author of the New York Times bestselling ‘I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell’ and internet celeb Tucker Max, has just signed a TV deal with Comedy Central. While still in the very early stages, the deal constitutes a script commitment and pilot from the network. Gavin Palone and Jamie Tarses of the TBS comedy ‘My Boys’ will executive produce the series via Pariah in association with Sony Pictures TV.

According to Variety, the scripted comedy will be based on Duke Law School graduate Max’s exploits as chronicled on his popular blog TuckerMax.com. Says Max, who will write the pilot and co-exec along with producing partner Max Long, "I want to show what my friends and I actually do. I don't think that's been authentically done for people my age on TV before." Max has also characterized the show as about himself and his friends, all professionals, transitioning into mature adulthood.

Indeed, Max, along with fellow net scribe Maddox of The Best Page in the Universe have been credited as co-founders of the new male-oriented genre known as “fratire,” so this new TV deal represents somewhat of a landmark in the growing partnership between the internet and television.

While it may be hard to believe a guy who introduces himself on his website with the sentence, " My name is Tucker Max, and I am an a--hole.", and who writes about his boozing and womanizing, has garnered such accomplishment, Max’s blog currently nabs 1 million to 1.5 million unique visitors per month, with an Alexa.com rank of 6,532. And it’s only just the beginning. Max has already inked a six figure deal to write his second book titled ‘A—holes Finish First,’ which is currently scheduled for release sometime late next year or early 2008, and has assembled an eclectic bunch of writers from various backgrounds into a blog network he created called Rudius Media.

But be forewarned, Max’s domain is not for the faint of heart, or those prone to take offense easily. In addition to his site and books, Max was also the subject of a one-hour MTV ‘True Life’ documentary about internet dating.
