Under The Dome Episode 12 Preview: Exigent Circumstances
Is there any chance the residents of Chester's Mill will get out from under the dome? Not if Big Jim Rennie can help it. We've seen Under the Dome veer further and further away from Stephen King's book with each episode, and that's kind of ok. King's novel is certainly the kind of story that can be adjusted and adapted fairly liberally without losing its core. Still, the above preview for next Monday's "Exigent Circumstances" does hint at some shades of the novel.
As the video reminds us, there are just two episodes left in the first season of Under the Dome. What can we expect from Exigent Circumstances? Well, for one thing, Carolyn's back! The last time we saw her, she was listlessly grieving the loss of her wife, but she has a daughter to look after and it looks like Norrie's in some trouble. She ends up Jim Rennie's target, and considering what the mini-dome club saw when they touched the dome together, that may end up being a bad thing for Rennie, though it looks like he has the upper hand this week, and he's willing to use that hand to slam Norrie against a wall. Not cool, Rennie! But I did like his menacing grin.
And based on one snippet of the video and the official episode description, it looks like Rennie's very enthusiastic about rallying the town against Barbie over the multiple murders Rennie framed him for.
CBS' announcement for the episode also mentions something about Barbie needing to protect Julia "before Big Jim finds her." Not sure what's going on there, as Julia was still down for the count from being shot the last time we saw her. But there really never is a dull moment for these characters.
The video also teases Junior touching the dome, and later slamming into someone. Was that Barbie? Those two seem due for another altercation, and with Barbie on the run, Junior might want to be the one to take him down.
Finally, we get to those book references. This is where things get a little bit spoilery, so if you haven't read the book, you might want to stop reading here! The first is Rennie setting Barbie up to be tried and possibly executed. That rings true to the book, as does Rennie's growing appreciation for the power he has in his town while the dome is down. And then - bigger spoiler alert! - there's the sight of Rennie setting a fire. Those who read the book know just how bad a fire can get under the dome...
