Up All Night Preview: NBC's New Comedy Starring Applegate, Arnette And Rudolph
Tomorrow night, NBC will celebrate the humor of parenting with the premiere of Up All Night, a half-hour comedy about two later-in-life parents who are struggling with the challenges of taking care of a baby.
On paper, Up All Night looks like another show about the humor in the challenge that is being a new parent, however the show has a few more things going for it off the bat than just that. Written by SNL‘s Emily Spivey, and exec-produced by Lorne Michaels, the comedy stars Christina Applegate (Samantha Who?) and Will Arnett (Arrested Development), along with one of the funniest female Saturday Night Live stars in the series’ history, Maya Rudolph. Applegate and Arnett play Reagan and Chris Brinkley, a married couple attempting to juggle their lives and careers with the new challenges that come with being parents. Rudolph plays Ava, a talk-show host and Reagan’s boss.
I’m less intrigued by the premise as I am the on-screen pairing of Applegate and Arnette, with Rudolph as a bonus. Judging by these clips from the pilot, we’re in for something good.
Up All Night premieres Wednesday, September 14th at 10/9c on NBC.
