V Coming Back To TV?
So, like 25 years ago, there was this TV movie called V. Yeah, it really was 25 years ago. I know, it doesn’t seem like it’s been that long. It then spawned a series that lasted for about a year, and then it disappeared. Well, there is a rumor going on EOnline that one of the big TV production companies is gearing up to revive the cult classic and they are doing it against the will of V’s creator – Kenneth Johnson.
Somehow, Warner Bros. obtained the TV rights, and Mr. Johnson only holds the movie rights. Warner Bros did the 80s show on NBC sans Mr. Johnson, and they are doing it again this time, but with ABC. Mr. Johnson has been trying for ages to get V to the big screen, but thus far he’s gotten no interest. I’m guessing no one wants to cross Warner Bros., but that’s just my take on it.
Mr. Johnson thinks it’s nothing more than a rumor. “Warners felt they wanted to develop [a new TV project] and had Scott write a script. And now they announced they have a development deal with ABC for a potential pilot for a potential series. But that's what it is, development for a potential," says Johnson. "In the meantime, I've been trying to get V done the way I want it done so I can...make sure the integrity, quality and substance of the original is maintained." I think he’s dreaming.
Honestly, I was only like 8 when the TV movie was on, and barely 10 when the series was over. However, integrity and substance are not words that I would necessarily use to describe V. How ‘bout you?
