A Very Murray Christmas Trailer: Bill Murray's Netflix Special Is Overflowing With Celebrities
The Christmas season keeps coming earlier and earlier. Now, with the release of the first real trailer for A Very Murray Christmas that will air on Netflix, it seems that the Christmas season is getting its start in mid-October. Although we have to wait for Halloween and more holidays to pass, it’s impossible to be bitter when that first taste of the holiday season includes Bill Murray. As far as we’re concerned, Christmas can come in August if Bill Murray decrees that it should be so. From the looks of the trailer, it seems that a whole bunch of celebrities feel the same. Check it out!
If we didn’t know that this was going to be something special just from the title of A Very Murray Christmas, the first credit pronouncing it “from Sofia Coppola” was a pretty good clue, but the real fun comes right after.
We see George Clooney, automatically and exponentially raising the handsome quotient of the entire project. He’s joined by comedians Chris Rock, Amy Poehler, Jason Schwartzman, Michael Cera, Maya Rudolph, Paul Shaffer and Rashida Jones. Miley Cyrus brings some vocals to the affair, as she is seen singing in a relatively demure Santa-esque dress on top of a piano, with Phoenix coming in at the end to accompany.
As the trailer is sadly only thirty seconds long, there wasn’t much time for any of the plot of A Very Murray Christmas to be revealed. It is, however, much more satisfying than the brief teaser released earlier this year that only featured a glum-looking Bill Murray standing alone in a pair of reindeer antlers. Going by footage alone, we’ve had to just re-watch that footage and wonder: oh, Bill, what ails you so?
If the half minute of frolicking celebrities, festive cocktails, lavish sets, and musical numbers are any indication, the glumness will not last for too long in the special.
Of course, even if we don’t know much more about the project other than the star-studded cast after the new trailer, we certainly have Bill Murray’s resume to fuel our imaginations. As an actor, he’s played everything from a gopher-hating golf course worker to a Ghostbuster to a fictionalized version of himself as a survivor of the zombie apocalypse. He’s no less absurd in his real life, popping out of a cake to hug David Letterman and telling a joke to the pope and strolling into bachelor parties just… because.
Between the kooky mind of Bill Murray, the directing touches of Sofia Coppola, and the talents of the long list of celebrities that have been roped in to the project, there can be little doubt that A Very Murray Christmas will be worth a watch this and every Christmas season, whenever it actually starts each year.
