The Walking Dead Documentary Special Previews An Inside Look At The AMC Series
There are still months to wait for the return of The Walking Dead, but with Comic-Con coming up, AMC seems eager to build some momentum in its effort to promote the upcoming Season 5, which is due to arrive this Fall. That includes airing a preview special tomorrow night (Tuesday, July 8), which will offer an inside look at the making of the zombie drama. The above preview teases the one-hour documentary special, showing off some behind-the-scenes look at the special effects used in The Walking Dead, both digital and practical.
Airing Tuesday, July 8 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT, Inside the Walking Dead will show fans how The Walking Dead is made as the series' executive producers and people from kept production departments show off how they put this series together for our entertainment. We're hoping for all the gory details, and then some! From the video, it looks like we're getting at least a few looks at scenes shot at the prison location, and a behind-the-scenes glimpse of what appears to be the roof collapse scene at the Big Spot...
As the preview indicates, this is one of two Walking Dead documentary specials set to air on AMC this month, with Inside the Walking Dead: Walker University set to air Tuesday, July 15 at 10:00 p.m.. That special will show how extras make the transition to full-on walker in the series. That includes everything from choreography to acting and the motivation behind each zombie. It'll be interesting to see what kind of insight is offered there, and how these extras prepare for their role.
July is a bit early to start hyping The Walking Dead, which typically doesn't return for its new season until October. However, between the comics and the AMC series, The Walking Dead is known to make a pretty massive splash at Comic Con in San Diego each year, and these two specials -- combined with the July 4 weekend marathon and Talking Dead episode that aired this past weekend -- seem timed perfectly to lead up to Comic-Con, which kicks off in San Diego on July 24. We got a brief glimpse of The Walking Dead Season 5 last night, and we expect to see even more of the new season during the the Walking Dead panel at SDCC. From what we've already heard about Season 5, it sounds like there's ""savageness" ahead for the series, as the characters face more challenges.
If you haven't seen it yet, watch the new clip from Season 5 and highlights from last night's special episode of Chris Hardwick's TWD talk show Talking Dead here. And you can get caught up on everything we know about Season 5 here.
