Watch Amy Poehler And Tina Fey Joke About Terrible Golden Globes Outfits
We’re ramping up for awards season, with both the Golden Globes and the Oscars hitting the schedule early next year. If anything has made this apparent, it’s the video NBC produced this week featuring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, the 2015 hosts of the Golden Globes. Watch them poke fun at red carpet fashion, below.
Awards ceremonies are so tied to fashion and high-end designers that the red carpet is often a little ridiculous. Beyond the wardrobe malfunctions and the emotive onstage speeches, awards shows are often really all about showcasing high-end brands. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s video pokes fun at the longstanding fashion tradition, discussing all of the “lovely” outfits the two women plan to wear while onstage this January. This includes a “romper” with “cheese” and “children’s ice skates” that will be worn by Fey. It also includes the "ER bandage dress with stilts” that Poehler jokingly plans to wear. There’s so much that goes into the fashion at these awards shows, it is nice to see the two comedians take what they are planning to wear lightly.
Regardless, don’t expect to see the stilts or ice skates come out during the actual show. I’m sure these brazen ladies will crush a few different high-end costumes during the event, but luckily, the best parts of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s Golden Globes stints have been the zaniness the two women bring to the stage, as well as plenty of fun monologues (rather than what they wear). This will be the third time Fey and Poehler take a crack at the Golden Globes and we can’t wait to see what they will do with the gig.
Unfortunately, this will be the last time that Fey and Poehler take the stage as hosts. The former 30 Rock star and the current Parks and Recreation star were the emcees at the awards ceremony in 2013, earning acclaim for the gig. Because they were so popular, the two women also signed contracts to return for the 2014 and 2015 Golden Globes. Recently however, Poehler spoke out to say she and Fey won’t return to the stage next year, saying “the law of diminishing returns” was keeping the two women from signing a new contract.
It’s important to note that both Poehler and Fey are branching out and doing more behind-the-scenes work, as well. Poehler’s attached as an executive producer to a new Billy Eichner series Difficult People. Tina Fey’s new series, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, was initially set up at NBC but will now air on Netflix. While I think a lot of people would adore seeing the two women continue to host the globes, they clearly have a lot going on in their respective careers right now.
The 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards will air on Sunday, January 11, 2015 on NBC.
