Watch The First 3 Minutes Of Fox's Almost Human
Fox may be making us wait a couple weeks longer than planned for the premiere of J.H. Wyman and J.J. Abrams new series Almost Human, but they haven’t been stingy on the promotional content. Earlier this week we shared an 8-minute preview of the futuristic cop drama, though we noted at the time that the video didn’t start at the beginning. The latest preview for the series gives us the first 3 minutes of the drama, which sets up the story as we see Karl Urban’s character Detective John Kennex nearly killed in the line of duty trying to save his partner.
The story is set in 2048 where cops are working alongside humanoid robots. As the first few minutes of the episode demonstrate, these robots are pretty practical in their decision-making abilities, and unwilling to take what they deem to be unnecessary risks. That’s how Kennex was left high and dry trying to save his partner, which resulted in him sustaining some serious injuries. The above clip explains why he’s as resistant as he is to work with one of these robots full time.
If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the eight-minute preview. It doesn’t pick up exactly where the above video leaves off, but I think you get a better sense of Kennex’s mindset having seen what he’s been through.
As the 8-minute preview shows us, Kennex gets partnered with one of the MX models, but that clearly doesn’t work out, which is how he ends up with Dorian, a more emotional humanoid robot. It’s looking like the series will focus on whatever kind of relationship Dorian and Kennex form as Kennex gets back into the swing of things and resumes crime-solving. It also seems like he has some kind of pill dependency that he’s keeping from people, so it’ll be interesting to see how that’s addressed.
Almost Human is set to premiere on Fox on Sunday, November 17 and then air its second episode Monday, November 18. The series stars Karl Urban, Michael Ealy, Minka Kelly, Mackenzie Crook, Michael Irby and Lily Taylor.
