Watch George Clooney And More Surprise James Corden In Latest Carpool Karaoke
James Corden hasn’t built the steadiest audience as a late late night host. However, there’s one repeat segment he does that really gets fans jazzed. I’m talking, of course, about "Carpool Karaoke," a bit that features James Corden driving around with random people—often a-listers--asking them questions and doing karaoke. It's so popular, it may get its own TV series, and this time around, there’s an added surprise when two A-listers hop into the car with Gwen Stefani and James Corden. You can check out the surprise appearance from George Clooney and Julia Roberts, below.
In the past, “Carpool Karaoke” has mostly been charming because it shows various celebrities in a chill environment, hanging out with James Corden and acting like regular people wearing regular clothing. It’s a fun segment, although this time around James Corden totally went in a different direction. After spending quite a bit of time with Gwen Stefani, he and the singer decide to give the HOV lane a try. Unfortunately, he needs four people to do it. So, he calls up his buddy who has "nothing to do" and gets him to take a ride in the car. That person ends up being none other than George Clooney.
It’s obvious the whole thing is contrived, but the banter between George Clooney and James Corden is adorable, and eventually James Corden convinces someone else to pop into the car to reach the needed HOV 4 capacity. It happens to be none other than America’s Sweetheart, Julia Roberts.
At around the 7:50 mark, they get into some more music, which includes car dancing and singing Gwen Stefani’s "Hollaback Girl." There’s some cursing involved, but since it’s late night on network TV, it gets bleeped.
James Corden has had some big moments during "Carpool Karaoke" in the past. In fact, he's had the super popular Adele on. More recently, he even pranked Leonardo DiCaprio via text message during a really funny bit with Jennifer Lopez. It's a segment that works, and hopefully he can find more ways to entice people with his personality, interviews and other viral segments as the show gets a little older.
The Late Late Show with James Corden airs on weeknights at 12:37 p.m. ET, only on CBS. For what else is coming up this summer, check out our TV premiere schedule.
