HBO always has an incredible lineup. No matter what time of year, you can turn to the premium cable channel on Sunday night and catch a critically acclaimed television series, not to mention the often interesting original films that premiere about once a month on a Saturday. And as a reminder of the incredible collection of shows and movies that HBO brought to the small screen this year, the network released a sentimental "2012 Yearender" spot.
Too bad the promotional video is so poorly named that many people not interested in reliving the the past probably skipped it and therefore missed out on getting to see a lot of never before seen footage in the 'Coming in 2013' section. It's all brief snippets but still. Some moments come from returning shows that HBO already released teasers for (Enlightened, Girls, Game of Thrones) but we also get first looks at other network favourites like True Blood, Eastbound and Down (including a blonde and curly Kenny Powers) and Veep. But wait, there's more!
The most interesting clips in the "Yearender" spot are culled from the several new projects, series and films, coming to the channel next year. HBO lets loose first-looks at two of the network's big new comedies with footage from Stephen Merchant, Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky's Hello Ladies (which also stars Merchant) as well as Christopher Guest's Family Tree starring Chris O'Dowd. The films quickly featured in the preview include Steven Soderbergh's Behind the Candelabra with Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, David Mamet's Phil Spector starring Al Pacino and Mary and Martha, written by Richard Curtis, directed by Phillip Noyce and starring Hillary Swank.
