Game of Thrones has produced a lot of spectacular episodes for fans, but I’m not sure anything is as spectacular as this Red Nose Charity Day Game of Thrones ad, which features Peter Dinklage crooning about all of the characters he has outlived on HBO’s hit fantasy drama. It’s good stuff, and it was produced with the help of the popular band Coldplay. Check it out.
On Game Of Thrones, Dinklage plays Tyrion Lannister, a character who last season killed his own parent and former lover and headed far away from King’s Landing, where he eventually hopes to join Daenerys’ posse. Despite his tumultuous background, he has outlived quite a few characters on the popular drama, including but not limited to Ned Stark, Robert Baratheon, and Joffrey Baratheon. How could you not love Dinklage after watching this (if you don’t already)?
Dinklage is only a serviceable singer, but the concept behind the video itself is pretty hysterical, since Dinklage is pretty much giving a shoutout to his character by cracking jokes about the other characters that have bit the dust on the drama. The only thing that could have possibly made this better would be for the Coldplay musical segment to have gone a little “We Didn’t Start the Fire” and listed all of the characters, including enemies like Oberyn Martell and random side characters like Ros, who have also been killed off. Still, it’s just the promo video for a musical sketch based on HBO’s Game of Thrones, and there should be quite a bit more to come during the upcoming Red Nose Day Charity Event. Plus, for an ad, the whole thing is extremely clever and definitely catches the attention of the audience.
Red Nose Day is apparently a well-known event in the U.K. since it first began in 1985, but NBC is giving the charity event a shot for the first time in the States this year. A three-hour TV special is set to hit the network on May 21, and will include segments from actors, comedians and musicians. The goal is to make people laugh and to raise money for kids and young people living in poverty across the United States. In order to donate, you can purchase red noses from outlets like Walgreens and Duane Reade stores. In addition, you can tune in for the live television special and donate during that.
Dinklage is apparently not the only Game of Thrones star set to appear during NBC’s Red Nose Day special. Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Iwan Rheon (Ramsay Bolton), Thomas Brodie-Sangster (formerly Jojen Reed), Mark Addy (formerly Robert Baratheon), John Bradley (Samwell Tarley), Rose Leslie (formerly Ygritte), Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy), Charlotte Hope (Myranda) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) are also slated to appear, so I’m guessing this musical sketch will be extra awesome for fans, and it’s for a good cause, too.
