Watch The Rock Impersonate Elvis, Sing In A Christmas Onesie
On the day before Christmas, Live with Kelly and Michael has given us a pretty great gift—an awesome karaoke video featuring none other than Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in onesie pajamas. I think that description is pretty explanatory, so if that seems like it’s up your alley, you can and should give it a watch, below.
If you’ve ever seen the cute comedy The Game Plan, you know that Dwayne Johnson actually has a reasonably soothing voice. In that movie, he plays guitar and sings Elvis Presley’s “Are You Lonesome Tonight.” In today’s Live with Kelly and Michael video, Johnson again channels Elvis, but this time around, he’s singing “Here Comes Santa Claus” (a song that, oddly enough, was once covered by Presley). Luckily for us, he at one point “slaps a little more Elvis” on his performance, which takes the whole thing way over the top.
While the Rock clearly won’t be able to transition from acting into a singing career anytime soon, he clearly enjoys singing in front of people, making this karaoke video a pleasure to watch—even when it starts to get wacky, with side comments about the onesie and an appearance by Santa Claus. Michael Strahan’s enthusiasm on the sidelines is also a win.
There are plenty of heartwarming videos that pop up around the holidays, as well as plenty of amusing ones. It’s nice that the Live with Kelly and Michael video gets the best of both of those worlds. It’s sentimental but fun, and definitely won’t make you cry like that #MontyThePenguin or Lowell Police Department videos. (Or, was that just me?)
The Dwayne Johnson performance is just a portion of the longer segment on the show, which also featured an epic rap track from the pint-sized Rip and Strahan. Their bit includes costumes, so be sure to give it a watch, below.
Live with Kelly and Michael isn’t the first series to jump on the Christmas song bandwagon this week. Earlier, this week, Fallon nabbed One Direction for an epic rendition of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” featuring The Roots, as well as numerous classroom instruments. That performance just may give The Rock’s awesome onesie performance a run for its money. At least the actor had Santa Claus, though.
We may not get the opportunity to see Johnson sing again anytime soon, but you can catch him on the big screen when his newest endeavor, San Andreas, hits theaters in May. You can check out the first look at the movie, here.
