Watch The Simpsons' Homeland-Inspired Opening Credits
Welcome to Homerland, where everyone is in on the plot, from Presidents Reagan, Bush and Clinton to Itchy, Scratchy, Sideshow Bob… even Maggie. Especially Maggie.
In case you couldn't guess, Homeland's return isn't going unrecognized by The Simpsons, which also happens to return for its new season this Sunday night, an hour ahead of the Showtime drama's premiere. The Simpsons pays tribute to the thrilling cable drama by parodying its opening credits and throwing a few Springfield twists in for good measure. The nod to Homeland isn't just in the credits, it also applies to the episode itself, which will feature a guest voice by Kristen Wiig, who plays a jumpy FBI agent named Annie, and who comes to Lisa's aid when she suspects her father ma have been "turned." Given that Homer actually works at a nuclear power plant, the concern isn't all that outlandish when you think about it.
Here's a look at Wiig as Carrie Annie:
Here's the official description for the episode:
The Simpsons's Homerland opening sequence is about as fantastic as some of its previous spoofs, Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad included. It's one more effort for the series to stay current, and given that it's rolling into its 25th season, I'd say that's a good approach.
In addition to this Sunday night's "Homerland" episode, fans of The Simpsons also have the annual "Treehouse of Horror" episode to look forward to. That's on the schedule for next Sunday (October 6). More information about what's in store for the spooky episode here.
In the meantime, here's another glimpse of this Sunday's season premiere here:
