Webber And The Amazing Technicolor Contest

Andrew Lloyd Webber will be producing a follow up to the successful BBC One production of ‘How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria’, which aired this year in the UK. ‘Maria’ was a talent search for the female lead in the musical classic, The Sound of Music. Weber’s new production, ‘Any Dream Will Do’ will search for the lead role in the West End production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

BBC One’s ‘How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria’ was a huge success in UK television. The role of Maria in the West End production of The Sound of Music was awarded to Connie Fisher, a 23 year old British telemarketer. For anyone unfamiliar with the theater industry, London’s West End is the theatrical equivalent to New York’s Broadway. The follow-up show, ‘Any Dream Will Do’ is set to air some time in 2007 and is likely to be as successful in the ratings as ‘Maria’.

In American news, NBC will be airing a similar show in 2007. The talent competition will search the country for the next stars in the hit Broadway show, Grease. The winners of the show, titled ‘You’re The One That I Want’ will be cast in the roles of Danny and Sandy in the popular production. ‘You’re The One That I Want’ will premiere on NBC on Sunday, January 7, 2007 at 8 pm.
