The Wheel and The Robot
Grandmas everywhere, rejoice! Your beloved Wheel will be available for years to come. And just in case you turn that TV on a few moments too soon, you'll catch Alex Trebek right there also. According to REUTERS, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune were both signed on to extensions through the 2011-2012 television season.
Don't you just love the thrill of the Wheel? Or the charismatic Trebek, asking obscure questions that only closet-freak, nerds know the answers to? Ok, so that is a bit harsh. Not all of the geniuses on Jeopardy are freaks. In fact, I've met one. Not a freak. But that is not the point. The point is that Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy have run for 24 and 23 seasons, respectively. That is huge in the world of television.
In fact, Jeopardy is on their third Trebek robot. The first one blew out in 1992, but that episode never aired (YouTube it). Then, the replacement took its own life. Somber day on the set. Rumor has it there was going to be a motion picture made of the events, but it never materialized. By the way, fiction is fun.
Back to what is important. ABC will have more Wheel and Jeopardy for you, your kids, your pets, and your grandparents for years to come. That nifty timeslot (7-8 PM) seems to catch just about everybody by the television. So grab some popcorn, wheel in grandma, and enjoy the games. Screw all those game shows shooting for $1 million, 25 grand is where it is at!
