Why The Walking Dead Fans Are Suddenly Really Worried About Maggie
Spoilers ahead for The Walking Dead TV Show and Graphic Novels.
Let’s be honest: the characters on The Walking Dead are like walking time bombs. As the AMC hit is set in the zombie apocalypse, characters are constantly being killed off, while new ones are introduced. Now, fans of The Walking Dead, and especially those attached to character of Maggie Greene, are beginning to worry about the heroine's fate in the second half of this season.
The actress who plays Maggie, Lauren Cohan recently showed up to an event as reported by Vanity Fair with a new short hair cut. While this might not be cause for alarm for those who don’t follow The Walking Dead, it is freaking superfans out. Typically, actors in these shows have to maintain their appearances as to not cause continuity errors in editing. So, if Cohan was able to cut her hair so much shorter, does that mean she’s no longer in the cast?
Granted, we may be overthinking here, but there certainly is some cause alarm. The big question mark regarding the second half of this season of The Walking Dead is Negan. When news broke that TWD would be adapting the villain from the comic books into the tv show, things all of a sudden got very real. Negan, who will be played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, is a terrifying villain in the graphic novels. With the mouth of a sailor and a loyal band of followers, Negan is going to be hell for our group of survivors to deal with.
In The Walking Dead comics, Negan commits the most horrific act of violence the graphic novel has ever seen. He uses his weapon of choice, a baseball wrapped in barbed wire, to kill the comic book Glen in a shocking twist. That doesn’t seem too likely for the AMC show, as Glen had a death-scare earlier this season. So the question on everyone’s mind is: who is Negan going to kill?
With Lauren Cohan’s new haircut, people think it might be the pregnant Maggie who ends up falling victim to Negan’s wrath. This would truly be an unprecedented type of violence for The Walking Dead, and one that it might not ever be able to come back from.
While it seems like possibly a step too far to kill off Maggie in such a violent nature, I have to say I think it’s a strong possibility. After all, we’ve heard statements from both the actors and showrunners saying that the back half of this season will be extremely dark. In fact, Andrew Lincoln has stated that the season finale is going to be the most brutal one in the show’s history. So, maybe losing Maggie is exactly that darkness.
