Work It Preview: Making Dudes Look Like Ladies
ABC’s Work It looks fairly ridiculous on all levels, and yet, I can’t bring myself to rule it out entirely. Maybe I’m just a sucker for cross-dressing shenanigans. Call it the Ladybug-effect, if you will. Or maybe the show looks like a throwback to sitcoms of yesteryear, with premises that are so ridiculous, no one would buy it, if not for the laugh-track. Whatever it is, I’m keeping an open mind about the comedy until at least the third episode.
Work It stars Ben Koldyke and Amaury Nolasco as two men who resort to dressing as women in order to get jobs. The premise alone has a sort of vintage, Bosom Buddies quality to it, which some may find dated or even offensive, while others may appreciate for the pure silliness of it.
The video below includes snippets of the show, including Koldyke’s Lee getting tangled up in a bra, and experiencing what can only be described as a make-up catastrophe. But a little eye-liner and a wig isn’t all that goes into transforming these men into career women. The video also includes a behind-the-scenes look at the make-up and hair process, which includes tweezing and finding the right hairstyles.
Work It premieres Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 8:30 p.m., ET on ABC.
